ARUL/BHAT

Victor Arul and Aditya Ryan Bhat encounter steel drums, guzheng, swarmandel, synthesiser, transducers, laptops, and other objects in a field of possibilities. What sounds will emerge? Swept along by eclectic tastes ranging from dialectics and posthumanism to kaya toast and a (not-so?)-tangential relation to the epic poetry of Homer, we look forward to uncanny discoveries in this (electro)acoustic terrain.

Victor Arul is a scholar and composer. His scholarly work covers a range of topics, including experimental musical practices in East Asia, the Frankfurt School, posthumanism, modernism, philosophical logic, video game audio of the late 1990s, the 1960s counterculture, and semiotics. He composes primarily for acoustic forces, but also is interested in acousmatic composition and environments involving acoustic instruments with electronics.

Aditya Ryan Bhat is a musician based in Naarm/Melbourne, Australia. He works across improvised and notational, acoustic and electronic practices as a percussionist, composer, and curator.

ABOUT THE SHOW
Mechanical Minds features sound machines made by James Hullick and the JOLT team, which the Noise Scavengers will then perform with. This is an ongoing project for the Noise Scavengers that was started in 2025 and will lead to further evolutions in 2026.

Some of the sound machines were made in collaboration with JOLT’s NDIS participants and guest artists such as Stelarc.

Machines include:
