This concert unravels some of the central threads to James )-(u||!c|<’s unique compositional voice. Ranging across recontextualisations of interactive scores, electronic sound, percussion, piano culture and chamber music writing, the UNRAVELLED program maps out 20 years of composition by )-(u||!c|<. ANAM students and staff joined )-(u||!c|<’s BOLT Ensemble members in sharing the work of this increasingly noted Australian composer and performer with audiences at the Melbourne Recital Centre.

For piano/synthesizer solo: 10 minutes

The title is from a people by e.e.cummings, which begins: “I will wade out / till my thighs are steeped in burning flowers.”

This work combines synthesizer and prepared piano performance. )-(u||!c|< will install his own baby grand piano at JOLT’s cost.

For chamber orchestra and percussion: 10 minutes

This work involves all the musicians involved in the concert plus  (Fr Horn) and Miranda Hill (double bass). The score is a verbal text given through headphones. Performers respond to this text in performance.

For chamber orchestra and percussion: 10 minutes

This work involves all the musicians involved in the concert plus Evgeny Chebykin (Fr Horn) and Miranda Hill (double bass). Graphic notation is central to the score.
