Voiceworks ‘Gutter’ Launch
Looking for a parade to rain on? Come get carried away at the launch party for Voiceworks #137, ‘Gutter’!
There’ll be readings from Tui Butler, Frankie Carroll, Lauren Melleah and Zarah Yakubu; magazines, stickers, prints and drinks for sale; an arts-and-crafts table; and a very special musical guest. Plus, you’ll get to see the very first issue of Voiceworks Strips – a standalone page of serialised comics by Frankie Carroll, Frances Gentile, Emily Sherlock and Sophie Wishart, Risograph printed by Glom Press!

Zarah Yakubu
Zarah Yakubu (they/she) is an emerging writer of Trawlwoolway/Palawa and Mwaghavul/Sura-Nigerian heritage. She originally hails from Trouwunna/Tasmania but currently lives and works on the unceded lands of the Wurundjeri Woi-Wurrung peoples. They are undertaking a Bachelor of Arts in Creative Writing at RMIT University. Their work has been published in Mascara Literary Journal, Splinter, Island and others.

Frankie Carroll is a young creative who loves to mess around with comics, photography and writing.

Tui Butler
Tui Butler is a Palawa writer who lives and writes on the unceded lands of the Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung people of the Kulin Nation. Tui has an Honours degree in creative writing from Melbourne University; their work can also be read in Kill Your Darlings.

Lauren Melleh
Lauren Melleah walks between writing and art, not sure where one ends and the other begins. Her practice weaves together concepts of place, land, interring (un)belonging, and time into a dream for a just future.
She is currently studying in the drawing and printmaking department at the VCA.
She is of settler descent and lives on the sovereign lands on the Wurundjeri people.

Joel Keith is the editor of Voiceworks.
Access: This event will be AUSLAN interpreted. Jolt Arts has an accessible entrance at the back via a wooden ramp. Accessible parking at back of venue. Inside the building, there is a ramp down into main theatre space.
