OTOMO YOSHIHIDE

Otomo Yoshihide is one of Japan’s true artistic visionaries. His ground breaking work as part of the lauded Ground Zero, set the stage for a life in music that has operated between film composition, free jazz, noise and restless experimentation. Yoshihide’s work is as iconic as it is profound, he holds an utterly unique position in the contemporary Japanese music landscape.

MORISHIGE + LYALL (JPN)

Morishige Yasumune (bass/cello), and Cal Lyall (guitar/banjo) are two titans of the underground improvised music scene in Japan. Lyall was director of Test Tone an improvised music night at Tokyo’s legendary SuperDeluxe venue for over a decade. Morishige has built up a formidable international name as a master soloist and collaborator. He is also bassist in Fushitsusha, one of Japan’s best known avant garde bands. Together Lyall and Morishige perform with James Hullick in Uminari. Uminari will release the album ‘if only the stone’, on this tour.

TOMOMI ADACHI

Otomo is joined on the bill by fellow experimentalist Tomomi Adachi, whose work operates between experimental sound, instrument creation and performance based methodologies. This is a dynamic vocal work, sitting at the fringes of contemporary practice. Adachi’s impact on international improvised music is not to be underestimated and it makes for a remarkable night to have Adachi on the bill.
