A founding member of The Amplified Elephants – a sound art ensemble – it was McGrath who originally thought of the name for the group. McGrath joined the Sonic Adventurers Collective in 2020.
Sonically, McGrath primarily works with keyboard-based synthesisers. McGrath also creates visual artworks and videos using her visual art works.
With the Sonic Adventurers McGrath has contributed visual and video artworks to several exhibitions including: THE RED LINE (2022, Wangaratta Art Gallery/JOLTED Arts Space), DAREBIN ART SALON (2023, Bundoora Homestead) and PRIMEVAL (2023, JOLTED Arts Space).
McGrath has performed in all of The Amplified Elephants’ Australian productions, including two Melbourne Festivals, as well as collaborating with several leading artists performing in many venues around Melbourne. McGrath toured Hangzhou and Hong Kong in 2017 for the large scale multi artist tour The Book of Daughters.
Recently, McGrath worked on The Amplified Elephants’ album DEEP CREATURES (2021, Heavy Machinery Records) and the production of HAGOROMO with Japanese Noh singer Ryoko Aoki. Both works were premiered in concert form in 2022.
Robyn appears on the first The Amplified Elephants album THE HOWLING SOUND (2011, Hullick Studios Records).
In 2015 McGrath performed SELECT NATURALIS in the Bendigo International Festival of Exploratory Music, which was remounted in 2017 at RMIT University. In 2016 and 2017, McGrath joined the women of the Elephants and guest sound artist Nat Grant in Melbourne, China and Hong Kong, touring the show SHHHH for JOLT’s The Book of Daughters artistic program.
McGrath recently toured Japan with The Amplified Elephants performing the show Hagoromo (2023).
